Halloween: The Game Multiplayer & Crossplay — How 1v4 Works

How Halloween: The Game multiplayer works: 1 Michael vs 4 civilians, special targets, escape types, returning as cops or Loomis, and crossplay status.

Halloween: The Game's multiplayer is a 1 vs 4 asymmetric match: one player stalks Haddonfield as Michael Myers while four players try to protect the town's civilians and escape the night alive. Matches are online PvP with co-op elements on the civilian side, with full crossplay between PC, PS5 and Xbox after launch.

The match at a glance

Element Michael's view Civilians' view
Special targets (golden) 3 key civilians worth the most points — always NPCs Protect and evacuate them first
Regular civilians (blue) 5 more NPCs worth fewer points Rescue, arm them, hide them
The 4 players Hunt them — but they're not the main objective Survive, save others, escape last if you can
Win condition Score 3,000+ points More civilians (and players) saved than killed

Several useful details the game doesn't explain clearly:

  • Special targets are always NPCs — the golden pillars of light and the "golden" noise pings mark where they are.
  • Dead or escaped players can come back: after dying or escaping, a player may return as a police officer (when "police respond" is available) or, once the radio is enabled, as Dr. Loomis — both can work to detain Michael.
  • Escapes come in several forms: ground hatches, a broken-down car (repair kit + gas can + sedan key, then drive out of town), a police wagon (after enough phone calls), an exit gate at the edge of the map (bolt cutters or padlock key), and storm cellars. Each exit has a limited number of uses.
  • A match scored 3,000+ points is a win for Michael; the civilian team wins on points if they save more than Michael kills.

Crossplay status

The game shipped with crossplay between PC, PS5 and Xbox Series, but it was unreliable at launch. Patch 1.0.1 fixed crossplay and also buffed Michael — community coverage of the patch landed within the first week after release. If you're seeing connection errors, make sure everyone has updated to at least 1.0.1.

Matchmaking tip

Don't queue into a 1v1, 1v2 or 1v3 lobby — the game is balanced around a full 1v4. Wait for the lobby to fill before readying up, and mute anyone rude from the scoreboard.
