Halloween: The Game Items Guide — Every Item and How to Use It

Published 2026-09-178 min read

All Halloween: The Game items explained by group: escape keys and tools, grab-breakers, lights and distractions, throwables, and the three epic purple items.

Everything that matters in a Haddonfield match passes through your inventory. Whether you are building an escape or surviving a chase, this guide groups every item by the job it does.

Escape-Critical Items

These unlock the exit routes — the win condition itself.

  • Repair kit — the map's maintenance tool. Consumed repairing vehicles, breaker boxes and phones.
  • Car keys — start a sedan, but only after it is repaired and fueled.
  • Gas can — fuels the sedan and completes the drive-out escape.
  • Escape key — opens the padlock on the main escape exit.
  • Fuse — the mechanical gate's missing part. Cut the chain or metal seal off the door first.
  • Bolt cutters — the swiss army knife: breaks padlocks on escapes and loot boxes (consumed on a loot box), and doubles as a melee weapon.
  • Police car keys — unlock and start the police car; the trunk carries extra supplies.

The full unlock matrix per exit — which of these each escape actually needs — is in the survivor guide.

Life-Savers (Grab-Breakers)

Used at the moment Michael's hands close on you. Mostly one-time consumables.

  • Butterfly knife — one-time, breaks the grab instantly.
  • Pocket knife — triggers a faster struggle prompt instead of an instant break.
  • Ice pick — one-time instant break, same family as the butterfly knife.

Lights, Distractions and Consumables

The high-frequency pocket slot: vision, distraction and recovery.

  • Flare gun — stuns Michael and briefly marks the area.
  • Road flare — blinds Michael and can summon police support.
  • Firecrackers — a wall of light and noise that interrupts a chase.
  • Flashlight — disorients Michael, pairs well with a melee swing, and stops him slipping away into the dark.
  • Flashlight batteries — refills the light, because the dark always wins eventually.
  • Lockbox code — opens a loot box without cutting anything.
  • Beer — lowers fear at the price of a wobbly, swaying walk.
  • First aid spray / first aid kit — restores health; the spray works mid-chase, the kit wants you standing still.
  • Soda — a stamina top-up.
  • Smoke — reads the area as ripples: Michael's movements, survivors, noise markers. Quiet map awareness in a canister.

Throwables

  • Darts / baseball / rocks / bricks — reusable throws that hurt Michael and smash windows; pick them back up after.
  • Cup — same idea, single-use.

Epic (Purple) Items

The rare end of the pool — limited spawns per match, game-swinging effects:

  • Ancient talisman — blocks one attack or grab outright, blinds Michael with no struggle prompt; destroyed on trigger.
  • Brass lantern — projects a green aura that lights up shadowed ground and disables Michael's Shape Jump and stealth inside it.
  • Hourglass — heavy damage and a slow on Michael, extends the match timer, and speeds up all of your own interactions.

All three get a dedicated page with usage details: the purple items guide.

The Item Discipline That Ties It Together

Two habits convert a full inventory into wins. First, route your looting around exits — keys, fuses and fuel only matter near the escape they open. Second, hoard your control items: a flare gun thrown at nothing is the reason people die with a full bag. For squeezing XP out of the same looting loop, the XP farming guide has the numbers.
